Why is Progressive Dinner (arguably) the best YLS event to attend?

YLS Progressive Dinner is a great opportunity for newer members of the bar to get to know prominent members of the legal community in a casual, "no-pressure" setting.

What is a Progressive Dinner?

Progressive Dinner is a dinner party with successive courses prepared and eaten at the residences of different hosts. The YLS Progressive Dinner will involve three locations with one course (appetizers, meal, and dessert) served at each location.

Who's invited to attend the Progressive Dinner?

All Members of the Young Lawyers Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association are invited. Each Member is also invited to bring an adult guest.

Where is the Progressive Dinner?

We will begin the event with the large group at one location for appetizers. Attendees and hosts are invited to begin the event at one location for appetizers and a casual social setting.  The large group will then split up for separate smaller groups (4-10 attendees per host) and travel to their respective hosts' houses for dinner.  Following dinner, attendees will reconvene into the large group at a third location for dessert.

Who are the hosts for the Progressive Dinner?

Hosts are prominent members of our legal community. E-mails went out to GRBA Members, trustees, previous hosts, judges, and referees. Host RSVPs are still open. The deadline to sign up to be a host is Friday, March 30th. At this time, the following members have graciously offered to host for the event:

  • Appetizers: Bill Azkoul
  • Dinner Hosts: Michelle McLean (& attorneys from Bolhouse, Hofstee, & McLean); GRBA’s President, Joy Fossel; Tom Behm; Referee Perry; and Referee Gottlieb
  • Desserts: Judge Yates

Additionally, each host may invite whomever he or she desires. Please note that this is not the final list and this is our tentative plan for the event. You will receive finalized instructions later.

What is the cost of the Progressive Dinner?

This event is FREE for members and an adult guest. This is all possible because of our gracious hosts!

What should I bring?

Each dinner host will prepare the main dish. Attendees should be prepared to bring a dish to pass. When we are closer to the event, we will share the "theme" of each dinner and/or items requested by the host. Additionally, any alcohol is at the option of the host. Hosts may request attendees "BYOB". Specific information will be circulated prior to the event.

Is there a limit to the number of attendees?

YES! There is a limited number of seats available at each host's home. Additionally, we limit the number of attendees, so that you can have a small-group setting for dinner. Priority will be given to those who register first.

What is the deadline to register for the Progressive Dinner?

Registration will end at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4th. We expect the seats to fill up fast. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible!
