Expert Testimony & Challenging DNA Evidence

Thinking about calling an expert witness but don’t know where to start?  Need inspiration to challenge the Prosecutor’s witnesses or DNA evidence?  Please join our speakers Andrew Rodenhouse and Joanna Kloet for a two-hour seminar on Friday, January 22, 2021 at noon to discuss these topics.    

Andrew Rodenhouse has tried over 35 cases and has litigated expert testimony in criminal cases all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court.  Most notably, in People v. Ackley (shaken baby syndrome) the case was remanded for a new trial because the original trial attorney failed to call an expert.  With his background in science and the law, plus his experience with handling expert testimony, he has learned what to look for in questioning an expert, when to call an expert, and why expert testimony can mean the difference in the outcome of a case.  Plus, he can be funny at times.

Joanna Kloet is an assistant federal public defender representing the indigent in federal criminal cases, with a special interest in defense of non-citizens facing federal charges.  After working as an Honors Program attorney for the Executive Office for Immigration Review, she spent several years in private practice and as a supervisor in the immigration clinic at MSU.  In addition to her role as an AFPD, she teaches Immigration Consequences of Crime, an upper level elective at MSU’s law school.  Joanna has been successfully litigating a case involving DNA for several years, which is now pending in the 6^th Circuit.
